Renowned physician, writer, and public speaker.
Academically, Dr. Fitzgerald devoted nearly four decades to educating the next generation of physicians at the UC Davis School of Medicine. She had command of making a diagnosis on the basis of the history and physical examination, techniques that are today frequently over-shadowed by technology.
She is probably better known to our Medical History and Museum fans for her wonderfully entertaining and popular, “Magical History Tours” she gave as part of our Museum Lecture Series. They often demonstrated the critical thinking and detective work that goes into diagnosing a patient’s disorder.
She was a very caring physician, generous with her time and knowledge, and was respected and remembered by both the medical profession and those that knew her outside of her medical practice.
She will be continue to be remembered through her publications, the physicians who were fortunate to have her as a teacher and mentor, her grateful patients, and all who experienced her wonderful presentations.
